A 7-YEAR OLD HOUSE HELP BRUTALIZED BY NIGERIAN HOUSEWIFE FOR FAILING TO CLEAN UTENSILS, DEVELOPS KIDNEY ENLARGEMENT AND OTHER HEALTH COMPLICATIONS DUE TO PHYSICAL TORTURE

A seven-year-old girl in Adamawa State, Angela David, was brutalized by a housewife, Maryam Mohammed, for failing to carry out domestic chores and has been diagnosed with kidney enlargement.

It was reported on Tuesday, May 30, 2023, that the Nigeria Police Force had arrested Mohammed for brutalizing the seven-year-old girl who

was kept in her care.

Mohammed allegedly used an electric cable to beat the minor, thereby inflicting injuries on her.

She was said to have been angered by the victim's inability to do some domestic chores.

Signs of being brutalized could be seen on the victim's head down to her back and knees at the time of the previous report on the matter.

The victim was first taken to Bakari Bole Clinic, Shagari low-cost, in the Yola South Local

Government Area but later moved to Specialist Hospital in the city.

The result of the scan carried out on David suggests that due to the severity of the injuries, her right kidney had become enlarged.

Also, the result of the scan shows that her liver had become inflamed (hepatitis).

The minor is currently taking medication at the Specialist Hospital.

According to one of the physicians in the hospital, the treatment may take up to six months.

The spokesperson for the state police command, SP Suleiman Nguroje said the suspect had been arraigned at Upper Area Court 1, Yola.

However, it was revealed that the accused person had been released on bail.

Narrating her ordeal after the incident, Angela said, "She fed me only once daily, so I was too weak to wash utensils on that ill-fated

day.

"She used electric cable and strands of the moringa tree to whip me all over my body."

Also, speaking on the matter, the mother of the victim, Elsey David, said, "I gave her my daughter

some eight months ago to assist her with domestic work. It was on condition that she would in turn enroll the child in school but she didn't."

Meanwhile, some civil society organizations have vowed to monitor the case to ensure that justice is served for the little girl.

Demons live amongst us. Until harsher and more critical punishments are given to these defaulters, this inhumane act will continue .
